Classroom Library

I am an elementary education major learning how to become a great teacher.
There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly! by Lucille Colandro (2014-08-26) - Lucille Colandro

This book is about squence of events of an old lady swallowing an animal to help eat the another animal. I think this book can keep readers engaged, because it can have them guessing or wondering what she would eat next. There are also songs that can go along with this text to help engage students even more. I can use this book in my classroom when I want to do a lesson on sequencing. I can have my students to sequence the animals in the order she swallowed them.

Harriet the Spy - Louise Fitzhugh

This book is very interesting and I enjoyed reading it as a reader. Harriet is one noisy character, but she is good at hiding it. She does says and write  some not so quite friendly things about people. But, when the people she writes about found out about what Harriet writes, then the tables are turned. I would use this book in my classroom when I want to teach my students about bullying and how it is not right to bully, even if you write it down and think that no one else is looking. I can also do a adjective activity where the students can describe Harriet.

A Bad Case of Stripes - David Shannon

In this book, the main character, Camilia Creme loves to eat lima beans. But she does not like to eat them in fornt of her friends at school, because they make fun of her. This book shows readers how if someone cares about what people think, it can show effect that person. I would use this book in my classroom if I were to teach about confidence or bullying.

The Three Ninja Pigs - Corey Rosen Schwartz, Dan Santat

This book puts a kicking twist on the original story "The Three Little Pigs". The ninja action words can keep a reader engaged. The three little pigs go to ninja school to learn how to fight the big bad wolf, "Ninja Style". This book is great for retelling the "Three Little Pigs Story" in an fun and interesting way. I can use this book when I am doing a compare and contrast lesson. I could read the original book and read the Three Ninja Pigs and see if my students can compare and contrast the two books.

Duck! Rabbit! - Amy Krouse Rosenthal, Tom Lichtenheld

This book will have you turning the book all kinds of ways to see if you think the main character is a duck or a rabbit. The reader may turn it one way and it could be a duck and another way it can be a rabbit. I can use this book in my classroom to do a lesson on compare and contrast. I can also use it to see my students visual perspectives are of the main character.

A Mink, a Fink, a Skating Rink: What Is a Noun? - Brian P. Cleary, Jenya Prosmitsky

This book is a good book to introduce nouns. This noun shows the readers how nouns can be a person place or things. I think this is good book for teachers to introduce his or her lesson on nouns. I would use this book when I am ready to do a known lesson with my students. I also would use this as a visual for students who need to see what a noun is.

Llama Llama Home with Mama - Anna Dewdney

Llama Llama is not feeling to well and he stays at home with Mama Llama. Mama Llama tends to Llama Llama with care and love. Llama Llama does not like the feeling about being sick, but his mama makes him feel loved and eventually makes him feel better. I can show my students how much their parents do to take care of them while they are sick.

Llama Llama Misses Mama - Anna Dewdney

In this Llama Llama book, Llama Llama goes to school for the first time and he does not know what to do without his mama there with him. At the beginning, it takes Llama Llama some time to get use to school, but his teacher makes him feel comfortable about being at school. Llama Llama then begins to feel more comfortable about school. I would use this book in my class to show my students that may not feel uncomfortable about coming to school for the very first time without their mom or dad.  I would show them how Llama Llama felt at the beginning, but he ended up feeling better about school.

Miss Bindergarten Gets Ready for Kindergarten - Joseph Slate, Ashley Wolff

"Miss. Bindergarten Gets Ready For Kindergarten" is a great book to read on a first day of school to show the students how the teacher Miss. Bindergarten how to prepare for her class and how her students were very excited about coming to school. In the story Miss Bindergaren prepares her kindergarten classroom while her new kindergartens get ready for kindergarten. The author, Joseph Slate, used begging sounds to flow along and rhyming words to help keep readers engaged. I think this book will make students more excited about their first day at kindergarten. I can use this book in my classroom for an alphabet lesson or a back to school lesson.

Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus! - Mo Willems

This book is short and sweet. This book does not consist of many words at all. Although, there is a pigeon who is the main character who is determined to drive the bus. This book will have readers engaged because the pigeon is asking the audience for permission. I can use this story as an icebreaker story and use as en engaging activity. This book is also another Moe Williems books.

If You Give a Moose a Muffin Book and Audio CD Set (Paperback) - Laura Numeroff, Felicia Bond

This book is another "If You Give" books. I love have the author matches the beginning sounds of the food and the main character (ex, moose and muffin). This book will have readers very engaged, because the readers would want to know what is the moose going to ask for next.  This book is another good resource for a cause and effect lesson. I would use this book for a cause and effect lesson. I would also bring muffins to go along with the lesson. I could also use this book in my classroom to show examples of sharing.

Play Ball, Amelia Bedelia (I Can Read Level 2) - Peggy Parish, Wallace Tripp

I personally grew up reading Amelia Bedelia when I was younger. My mom would read this book to me and I would read this book all myself. Amelia is a funny character that loves to do thing you tell her to do but literally. I can share this book with my classroom just to have a book to giggle at and to have fun with.

Should I Share My Ice Cream? - Mo Willems

I had never heard of Mo Willems until my professor read this book to us one day in class. I love the story line and the two main characters. I like how Elephant had to learn how to share his ice cream with his friend. I can use this book when I am getting ready to tech a sharing lesson and bring ice cream to share with my classroom.

If You Give a Mouse a Cookie - Laura Joffe Numeroff, Felicia Bond

I love how this book keeps the reader wondering what the mouse is going to ask for next all because he wanted a cookie to begin with. It also kind of makes you not want to ever give a mouse a cookie, but who could not resist this cute little mouse character. I would use this book in my classroom for a cause and effect lesson. I would also read the story and have a cookie day as well.

The Night Before St. Patrick's Day - Natasha Wing, Amy Wummer

I read this book to a group of first grade students during my first whole group lesson. The lesson I taught was character, setting, and plot and this book was perfect for the lesson. The students loved the book and the rhyming words and illustrations were very engaging and the students seemed to love it. I can use this book during the month of March to give the students examples and visuals of St. Patrick's Day.
